The NBB4-12M45-E1-1.07M-V1 is an M12 inductive proximity sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs, specified and used as a Z-axis reset and limit sensor in Haas CNC machining centres. In Haas machines, the Z-axis reset sensor detects the spindle's home reference position — the point from which the machine establishes its Z-axis coordinate datum at power-on or after an axis fault. Without a functioning sensor, the Z-axis cannot complete its homing routine and the machine cannot return to production.
Inductive proximity sensing detects metallic targets without physical contact. The sensor's oscillator generates an electromagnetic field at the sensing face; when a ferrous or non-ferrous metal target enters the 4mm rated sensing range, the induced eddy currents in the target damp the oscillator and trigger the output. At 4mm, the NBB4-12M45-E1 provides a sensing range appropriate for the close-clearance mechanical positions typical of machine tool reference sensing.
The NPN normally-open output is the standard interface for Haas CNC machine I/O — the output transistor switches to low (0V) when the target is present (sensor actuated), and remains high-impedance when no target is detected. The 10-30V DC supply range accommodates Haas control supply voltages across different machine models.

The NPN (sinking) output is confirmed as the correct output type for Haas CNC machine I/O inputs. Haas machine I/O uses NPN sensor inputs — the sensor switches the input to 0V (low) when actuated. A PNP sensor (which sources the supply voltage to the input when actuated) is not compatible with Haas NPN input circuits. The normally-open (NO) configuration means the output is open-circuit in the unactuated state and switches to 0V when the target is present. In Haas's reference sensing logic, this corresponds to the "not at home" state normally open and "at home" state when actuated.
The 1.07m cable with M12 4-pin V1 connector simplifies installation — the M12 connector mates with the machine's existing M12 sensor receptacle without wire cutting or crimping.
